Charlie
Charlie – The Ultimate UAV for Pilot Training & Skill Development
Charlie is DroneVation’s dedicated training UAV, engineered to empower Remote Pilot Training Organizations (RPTOs), academic institutions, and drone research centers with a professional, reliable, and safety-focused training platform. Built under DroneVation’s Make in India initiative, Charlie integrates robust engineering, operational safety, and modular design—creating an industry-standard solution for drone pilot education and skill advancement.
At the core of Charlie lies DroneVation’s indigenous KKA Flight Controller, purpose-tuned for training missions and DGCA-compliant operations. The controller supports multiple flight modes—Stabilize, AltHold, Loiter, Auto, and RTL—allowing progressive learning from manual to autonomous flight. A specialized training firmware mode limits altitude, speed, and flight boundaries for beginners, ensuring complete safety and instructor oversight.
Key Highlights
Description
A hallmark of Charlie’s design is its Master–Slave Control System, which enables dual-transmitter operation between the instructor and trainee. In this setup, the instructor (master) holds overriding control while the student (slave) operates under supervision. With a simple switch, the instructor can instantly regain full control during emergencies or errors. This system ensures safe, real-time skill transfer—an indispensable feature for RPTO-certified flight training programs.
Constructed using aerospace-grade carbon composites and reinforced polymer arms, Charlie delivers an ideal balance of lightness and resilience, capable of enduring repeated training sorties. Its modular build allows tool-free replacement of arms, motors, and payload mounts—keeping operational downtime minimal and maintenance cost negligible.
With 60+ minutes of endurance, 500 g payload capacity, and quick-swap Li-ion/Solid State battery packs, Charlie supports extensive flight sessions throughout the day. The dual-link telemetry (RC + GCS) offers live parameter monitoring, while failsafe functions—Return-to-Home, Geofencing, and Low-Battery Auto Land—safeguard every mission.
Charlie is not limited to pilot training alone. It doubles as a research and testing platform for universities and startups exploring payload integration, mission automation, or AI-based navigation systems. The open-architecture design makes it easy to interface with companion computers, vision sensors, and other experimental modules.
Portable, efficient, and safe, Charlie is more than a training drone—it’s a classroom in the sky. By bridging theory and hands-on practice, it helps institutions produce the next generation of skilled, confident, and regulation-ready UAV pilots who will drive India’s aerial revolution.
